My Story:
I started working out in 2005. After being married for six months, I remember looking in my apartment bathroom mirror and being disgusted with my body. I was 150+ lbs. No muscle definition and my pant sizes felt like they were going up by the week. I couldn't take it any longer. Weight can accumulate fast with my genetics! So I started my quest as a Runner. I moved into my first home a few weeks after my decision to work out and start making life changes. I entered 5k's, 10k and Half Marathons. I felt good some changes were happening along with changes my joints started hurting. My knees would ache a lot but I thought well I need to work out so just keep pushing through the pain. 2007 was a big year, my marriage fell apart, I moved into my parent’s house and I felt like my body had plateaued. I completed my 7th Half Marathon and I looked no different from my 2nd. I wanted that 6 pack abs you see in the magazines! I thought there had to be a way I could have those abs! I met some guys at a local gym I was working out at and they mentioned I had a good structure to do a show. "A show?" what's that? They explained it was a lean muscle contest where they judge symmetry and balance of lean muscle mass while wearing a bikini! I never in my life would have thought I could be able to step on stage in front of thousands of people wearing a bikini!
A few weeks went by and as I grew tired of being in the gym day after day with no real changes, I decided, well maybe I will just train like I will do a show but never really step on stage! I want to push my body and get some new results. I found my friend at the gym and said ok, I want to do a show! He said, " Great, I will introduce you to my trainer he's coming in tonight to the gym." That night was the first time I met a Personal Trainer named Justin Dees. He looked at me and said I did have a good structure but still had a lot of work to do! The next morning at 5am I met Justin at his gym. He tested my body fat at 23% and weight of around 134lbs. I started seeing ACTUAL changes! For the next seven months he prepared me for my first show, by putting on lean body mass and loosing a lot of fat. I step on stage for the first time at 7.9% body fat weighing 122lbs! I did it. Abs I was proud of! My first show I placed 1st in my class and won the Overall! I took the show!!
Now I'm hooked! Justin and I started dating 5 months after our first training session and are now Happily Married! I am continually trying to improve on my physic and entering National Level shows, competing against over 200 girls across the country! Learning to eat right and train each muscle group properly with incorporating cardio and good supplements to break plateaus, my body is continually improving month after month. The longer you stick with it; it becomes a lifestyle and a habit, not a dreaded workout! The question is what am I training today not am I going to the gym! I am now a Stepmother of four and a full time cosmetologist! With all that going on I make time to workout and eat right! I want to set a good example for my kids and friends and let others know it is possible! For the first time in my life I love my legs! And I am happy with my abs. There is always room for improvement and I still get to eat some cheat meals! Life is fun! Setting goals and doing shows are what keep me at it!
