You Are What You Eat, Especially At the County Fair

If you don’t think the phrase “You are what you eat” is true, just go to the county fair. If you take a look around, you’ll quickly realize that most of the people don’t look so great. This might have something to do with the fact that everything at the county fair has been either deep-fried, dipped, soaked, and/or wrapped in grease, or coated entirely in sugar. In the most extreme cases, (at the Minnesota State Fair for instance) you can actually buy candy bars that are dipped in batter and deep-fried! Talk about a heart-attack on a stick.

The logical conclusion from this experiment is, if you want to look good, you need to eat well. There are lots of things that you eat regularly that you probably don’t realize are really holding you back from good nutrition. One of the first things that makes a big difference is eliminating soft-drinks. It is amazing what a difference you can make with just this one thing! For instance, if you drink one Coke per day, by replacing that Coke with water, flavored with lemon or lime, you are basically guaranteed to lose 40 lbs that year. So many people struggle and struggle to lose weight and are completely missing this easy first step!

Once you have eliminated soft-drinks, you will start to notice a change. Not only, will you feel better, but your tastes will actually change so that you no longer crave things that are so extremely sweet. Fruit is an excellent alternative to the artificial high-fructose corn syrup laden offerings of candy and soft-drink companies. The sweetness of fruit is much more appealing once you have distanced yourself from candy and soft-drinks. You will soon find that you really don’t need anything sweeter than fruit. It is really empowering once you realize that some things are very well-intentioned by nature to please the body.

Vegetables are always a very important part of any diet. You should be sure to include fresh vegetables in at least two meals per day. Whole-grains are equally important. If you look closely at a loaf of bread in the supermarket, you may be shocked to see that among the ingredients of some brands is high-fructose corn syrup! It is amazing how hard it is to escape this, but it really is in an astounding number of products. Be sure to choose bread without this unnecessary addition, and stick to 100% whole wheat. Your body will thank you.

In addition to these important parts of any diet, be sure to include plenty of healthy protein to help you build lean muscle. Whey Protein is one of the best sources because the isolate variety is 90% protein, it tastes good, and is easy to digest. It is an all-natural gluten-free byproduct of dairy and is used by exercise enthusiasts and professional athletes. Another excellent way to enhance your diet is to take a good daily multivitamin. This will give you the nutrients that you may be missing like Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D.

By making these simple changes to your diet, you’ll be more in line with what nature intended, that you look great and feel great every day!
